More than 240 people are expected to join The Brick for our annual fundraising event at the DW Stadium on Friday 5th April 2019.

Players and coaching staff from Wigan Athletic’s Development Squad will grab their sleeping bags and brave the elements for The Brick’s DW Stadium Sleep on Friday 5th April.

The Brick are hosting the DW Stadium Sleep for a second consecutive year after 120 people took part in last year’s activities to raise vital funds and awareness of the charity’s work.

That number is expected to be doubled this time around, with participants set to swap the comfort of their beds for sleeping bags on the concourse of the East Stand at the DW Stadium.

Latics and The Brick teamed up for a second year in September 2018, with the aim of the partnership to raise £100,000 to buy The Brick Works, on Hodson Street near Wigan town centre, which would secure the charity’s long-term future.

Nick Chadwick, Development Squad coach at Wigan Athletic, said: “I think most people know of family or friends who have fallen on hard times so it’s important for our players, who are in such privileged positions as professional footballers, to help people who are struggling so it’s great that they’re getting involved.
He added: “The links the club has with the community are fantastic and we want our younger players to build relationships and get a feel for the town of Wigan and the community as a whole.”

Ged Bretherton, Business Director at The Brick said: “We are delighted that we already have 200 people joining us at the DW Stadium Sleep next week, and we are extremely grateful for all of the support from Wigan Athletic to ensure that we can raise as much money as possible for the people who need it the most, in our community.
“We have just 50 places available so if anyone is considering signing up and joining us at the DW Stadium Sleep we would advise that they get in touch as soon as possible!”

Chris Merrie, Development Squad captain at Wigan Athletic, said: “This is the first time we’ll have done anything like this, so it’ll be good for us as a group to meet everyone taking part, but also to give us that chance to bond as teammates because we’re a new squad. We’re all excited for the event and are just pleased to be able to give something back to The Brick and support their work.”

Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 for The Brick through fundraising, with the event itself running from 9.30pm – 6am.
Anybody over the age of 13 can take part in the event, but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Local businesses and community groups are welcome.
