Role Title: Brick Community Champion
Responsible to: Ops Director /Volunteer Coordinator
Responsible for: Assisting in delivering positive messages and presentations in the community
Hours of Work: As per invites to attend
Location: Off site

Main purpose of role

The Brick Community Champion volunteer role is essential in developing the strong and positive message we want to give out to the local community about the work we undertake to tackle homelessness and poverty in the Wigan borough. We regularly get invited to schools, community centres and other such venues to conduct presentations, talks and information stalls and The Brick Community Champion will be part of the team that delivers this.

About the organisation

Queen’s Hall Action on Poverty (QHAP) is dedicated to delivering sustainable, quality and effective services to the people of Wigan and Leigh in an asset based approach (i.e. Emphasis placed on an individual’s assets as well as their support needs). QHAP is a Christian Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.   Our services include

  • The Brick Works
  • The Brick Shop
  • The ReWorks
  • The Brick Project – including food bank, outreach, crisis intervention and emergency access accommodation.

Our Organisation provides several homelessness services to the Wigan Borough.

Key Tasks:

  • To deliver presentations, talks, assemblies etc. in the community
  • To be knowledgeable about the organisation and the work we are achieving 
  • To be proactive in the organisation of such events
  • Be a positive and passionate ambassador for The Brick
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Participate in supervision meetings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training
  • Be responsible, as required, for health and safety issues, including safeguarding.
  • Monitor own wellbeing and capacity and draw on Brick Project support as appropriate
  • Be a positive representative of The Brick and the Queens Hall Action on Poverty

Training and Support:

Induction training will be provided as well as ongoing training and support.

Supervision (One to One’s with Team Lead):

Supervisions are not scheduled but we encourage you to request one with your team lead or volunteer coordinator at any point you feel this would be beneficial or as and when a concern arises.

Expenses:

QHAP will repay the cost of travel to and from the projects for volunteering sessions and when out and about in the community.

Commitment:

The nature of The Brick Community Champion is to be a positive ambassador for The Brick and to deliver strong and confident communication to the Wigan community about the work we are all undertaking. Given the nature of the Ad Hoc outreach engagements this role involves we understand the volunteer may not always be available but we do hope each volunteer helps us build a team of reliable and dedicated Brick Community Champions. Commitment is also expected with regards to attending supervision, team meetings and training as and when required.
