Brick Re-Use

Our social enterprise division, driving financial sustainability and raising vital income for the charity, but more importantly for people who are struggling financially to be able to access affordable household items, preventing bad borrowing decisions and debt crisis.

Brick Re-use encompasses our charity shops and Gearing Up, a bike maintenance, retail, and training community interest company.

Our Re-use project remains focused on addressing disproportionate inequalities across the borough by diverting excellent quality, used furniture, clothing, household goods and bikes from landfill to families and individuals to raise living standards and increase wellbeing.

Our charity shops are the hub of the community, operating from Gidlow Lane in Wigan and Railway Road in Leigh. Not just shops, they also provide vital welfare support. In partnership with Wigan council, we provide ‘welfare packages’, which can include sofa’s, dining tables and chairs, beds and much more! This helps the move into own accommodation, that much easier and makes a house much more like a home. But, we don’t just stop at furniture welfare, thanks to the regular donations of clothing we receive, we are able to provide clothing free of charge to those who are vulnerable in our community, this may include people who are rough sleeping, people who have fled domestic violence, or even people we are supporting to find work too.

With two unique stores, The Brick offers a variety of items at each of our retail sites including furniture, electricals, clothing, homeware, children’s toys and nursery items.

It is only with the generous support of the local community that we can continue to run and expand our retail department within the borough, providing quality new and used items at affordable prices; not only this but we save thousands of items every year from ending up in landfill by accepting donations at the shop door or via our collection service.

The Brick prides itself on it’s position in the community and the shops are just a small part of that, however they provide much needed support to lots of different people, and provide a safe welcoming space for local people.

WHATWE DO

  • Recycle unloved & unwanted bikes
  • Support and train people into employment, learning new practical skills
  • Sell low cost / affordable bikes – promoting healthy lifestyles, travel to work and reduction in congestion
Based in local workshops we provide all these services alongside, meeting and training facilities. Working with communities and local groups we promote cycling through access to bikes, and development of skills and confidence. In partnership with public services and other organisations we promote cycling and alternative forms of transport for health, leisure, and work.

We are committed to recycling

We rely on public support to help develop this work.

We need donations of bikes – if you drop them off we’ll put the kettle on and open the biscuits (but we will also collect them if that’s better for you)

We really need you to spread the word to get people to call in to see what we do, get your bike fixed or buy a “new” one
