What inspired you to contact The Brick about volunteering opportunities?
I have wanted to do something that would help with the homeless situation within my local community, but I was not sure how to get involved. I saw a Facebook post by The Brick asking for volunteers to help in the Wigan Hub and thought it was the ideal opportunity for me to get involved.
What’s your previous experience of volunteering?
I haven’t previously volunteered before this.
Are you employed? Retired? Student? In between Jobs? Unable to work?
I am employed full time.
What do you hope to get from volunteering at The Brick?
I would like to provide the people that I meet through volunteering the help to move on from homelessness and to be able to maintain a tenancy and a job; to help in whatever way I can.
What area of The Brick would you like to or have started volunteering in and why?
I volunteer at the weekend at the Wigan Hub as I want to provide a contribution to the reduction of homelessness in Wigan.
The Brick Shop is a charity shop selling donated goods, often to people on low incomes. The shop gives clothes free of charge to people referred by Wigan Council. The shop is one of the main hubs within its community.
The Brick Giving aims to put an end to poverty and homelessness in Wigan and Leigh. Our #BrickbyBrick campaign is working to raise £175,000 to purchase The Brick Works and make sure no one in our community is left behind.
