What inspired you to contact The Brick about volunteering opportunities?
I quite often go into The Brick Charity Shop on Gidlow Lane and on one visit I saw a notice advertising for volunteers at The Brick, and I thought ‘why not?’
What’s your previous experience of volunteering?
I volunteered for 3-4 years at St Pats luncheon club serving teas and coffees
Are you employed? Retired? Student? In between Jobs? Unable to work?
I’m retired now but I previously worked at the Heinz factory for many years
On top of that, in my ‘spare time’ I am studying via the Open University for a degree in Business Management. I was worried that I couldn’t spare a lot of time to volunteer but The Brick assured me that every bit helps!
What do you hope to get from volunteering at The Brick?
I hope to meet new people and have a chat!
What area of The Brick would you like to or have started volunteering in and why?
I would like to support the kitchen at The Brick Works.
The Brick Shop is a charity shop selling donated goods, often to people on low incomes. The shop gives clothes free of charge to people referred by Wigan Council. The shop is one of the main hubs within its community.
The Brick Giving aims to put an end to poverty and homelessness in Wigan and Leigh. Our #BrickbyBrick campaign is working to raise £175,000 to purchase The Brick Works and make sure no one in our community is left behind.
