Responsible to: Asset Coach Team / Volunteer Coordinator
Responsible for: Facilitating an individual’s transition to independent integration in the community
Hours of Work: 3 or more hours per week

Main purpose of role

The PTS role will promote the development of an individual’s internal assets and strengths such as self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing. In addition the service focuses on widening the individual’s social networks and brokering further, not yet explored opportunities of interest. The PTS service also empowers the individual to identify potential external assets also such as developing positive relationships with new people, exploring hobbies, vocational interests etc. The Volunteer PTS Connector Role is key in facilitating and supporting an individual’s personal transition from working with an Asset Coach to independent integration within their own community.

About the organisation

Our Organisation provides several homelessness services to the Wigan Borough.

Key Tasks:

  • Meet with the individual at a place of their choice and interest at a time that suits you both
  • Liaise with the relevant Asset Coach about the arrangements made and the outcome of each meeting
  • Record Attended and Did Not Attend Meetings on Lamplight or feed this back to the Asset Coach
  • On discussion with both the individual and the Asset Coaches research relevant local options and activities
  • Being constantly mindful of the person centred approach The Brick and specifically the PTS service adopts
  • Attend scheduled 3-way meetings with the Asset Coach and the individual at a time that is convenient to all parties
  • Be vigilant in reporting any Safeguarding concerns that arise in line with our Safeguarding Policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of clients
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training
  • Be responsible, as required, for health and safety issues, including Safeguarding and Lone Working policies.
  • Monitor own wellbeing and capacity and draw on Brick support as appropriate
  • Be a positive representative of The Brick and the Queens Hall Action on Poverty

Training and Support:

Induction training will be provided as well as ongoing training and support.

The Asset Coaches will conduct a full explanation of the role and give an overview of the PTS before you commence this voluntary role.

Supervisions are not scheduled but we encourage you to request one with your team lead or Volunteer Coordinator at any point you feel this would be beneficial or as and when a concern arises.

QHAP will repay the cost of travel to and from your home address (within borough) for volunteering sessions.

Often this role will incorporate expenses such as café bills, activity charges etc. and petty cash will be made available to you in advance or reimbursed as an expense.

The nature of the Volunteer PTS Connector is to develop a trusting relationship with those transitioning from homelessness or a chaotic lifestyle and a professional relationship with staff and other volunteers. It would be expected after training that the volunteer would be flexible regarding arrangements made and understand that the person led approach we adopt often means meeting attendances might be irregular and plans may chop and change.
