Local people in Leigh are being invited to discover how they can make a real difference in their community when The Brick hosts a Volunteer Open Day at its Leigh charity shop on Thursday 12 March.
The event will give residents the chance to meet the shop team, learn about volunteering opportunities and find out more about how The Brick supports people experiencing homelessness and poverty across Leigh as well as Wigan.
Visitors can drop in to chat with staff and current volunteers, learn about the different roles available in the shop, and even apply to volunteer on the day. No previous experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to help others.
Volunteers play a vital role in helping The Brick raise funds through its charity shops, with proceeds supporting services that provide housing, food support and practical help to people in crisis.
Rosemary Corns, Volunteer Engagement Co-ordinator at The Brick, said:
“The open day will also highlight the personal benefits of volunteering, from building confidence and learning new skills to meeting new people and gaining valuable experience, and light refreshments will be available.”
Current volunteers say the role has brought both purpose and friendship.
One volunteer said: “I started volunteering because I wanted to give something back locally. What I didn’t expect was how much I would enjoy it. The team is really welcoming, and it feels good knowing the shop helps people who are struggling.”
Another volunteer added: “Being part of the Brick has positively changed my outlook on life, and I always leave feeling grateful, uplifted, and proud to be involved.”
Anyone aged 18 or over who is interested in volunteering is welcome to attend. Visitors can complete a simple application form on the day and speak to the team about roles that suit their availability.
