Brick Re-Use

OUR COMMUNITY ORIENTATED DIVISION OF SOCIAL ENTERPRISE. OUR GOAL IS TO DRIVE FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY AND TO RAISE VITAL INCOME FOR THE CHARITY. MORE IMPORTANTLY, WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE PEOPLE THE ACCESS AND CHOICE TO AFFORDABLE CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD GOODS, FURNITURE AND BICYCLES THAT ARE PRELOVED, REUSED AND UPCYCLED.

Brick Re-use encompasses our charity shops, online shop and, also Gearing Up; a bike maintenance, retail, and training community interest company. Our Re-use project remains focused on addressing disproportionate inequalities across the borough by diverting excellent quality, used furniture, clothing, household goods and bikes from landfill to families and individuals to raise living standards and increase wellbeing.

Our charity shops are the hub of the community, operating from Gearing Up inside of The Brickworks in Wigan, The Brick Shop, Gidlow Lane in Wigan,  The Brick Shop inside of the Rebuild With Hope Store (inside the former Debenhams), Grand Arcade in Wigan and soon to be again, Railway Road in Leigh.

Not just shops, they also provide vital welfare support. In partnership with Wigan council, we provide ‘welfare packages’, which can include sofa’s, dining tables and chairs, beds and much more! This helps the move into own accommodation, that much easier and makes a house much more like a home. However, we don’t just stop at furniture welfare, thanks to the regular donations of clothing we receive, we are able to provide clothing free of charge to those who are vulnerable in our community, this may include people who are rough sleeping, people who have fled domestic violence, or even people we are supporting to find work too.

With a growing number of unique stores, The Brick offers a variety of items at each of our retail sites including bicycles, furniture, electricals, clothing, homeware, children’s toys and nursery items.

It is only with the generous support of the local community that we can continue to run and expand our retail department within the borough, providing quality new and used items at affordable prices; not only this but we save thousands of items every year from ending up in landfill by accepting donations at the shop door or via our collection service.

The Brick prides itself on its position in the community and the shops are just one layer of what we do, however they provide much needed support to lots of different people, and provide a safe welcoming space for local people.

We Recycle and restore preloved & unwanted bikes.

  • Support and train people into employment, learning new practical skills.
  • Sell and repair bicycles at prices that are affordable to all – promoting healthy lifestyles, travel to work and reduction in congestion.

Based in local workshops we provide all these services alongside, meeting and training facilities. Working with communities and local groups we promote cycling through access to bikes, and development of skills and confidence. In partnership with public services and other organisations we promote cycling and alternative forms of transport for health, leisure, and work.

We are committed to reuse, upcycling & recycling

We rely on public support to help develop this work.

We’re here to support YOU, your families, local schools, colleges, community groups, sports clubs and cycling clubs.

We are always looking for donations of bikes – if you drop them off we’ll put the kettle on, open the biscuits and discuss how they’ll be used within our shop and community  (but we can also collect them if that’s better for you)

We really need you to spread the word to get people to call in to see what we do, get your bike fixed or buy a “new” one
