The Brick Adopts New Measures

Louise Green the Brick CEO would like to thank the Wigan Community for their ongoing support to the Charity. “I know that everyone is worried about current events taking place on our doorstep and across the world and the Brick is trying its best to maintain vital services whilst at the same time, protecting our staff and volunteers.

“In order to ensure that we keep on top of government guidance but also to ensure we meet the needs of the Wigan Community, we are making some changes to the way we provide services. These updates may change daily depending on advice from the Government, or there may be a need to reduce services if staff numbers fall below expected rates, due to self isolation.

“We will endeavour to ensure that we communicate all updates as quickly and as efficiently as possible and we urge the community to check our website and social media for up to date service delivery and advice.”

The Brick Project, located at 10 Arcade Street, will operate from 10:00 – 13:00 to support individuals presenting as homeless. At this time, we must focus our services on Homeless presentations only. We will try our best to sign post other presentations as best we can.

The Brick Food Bank is operating from Market Street in Wigan and will be open from 13:00 – 16:00 to provide food, toiletries and sanitary products to those with a referral.

If there are people who need a food parcel but are unable to attend the Life Centre for a referral, they can contact 01942 236953 to discuss this with our Admin.

Food Bank Donations – The Brick food bank is at an unprecedented low in terms of stock. We appreciate that this is an extremely difficult time for everyone, but would ask that if you could buy any extra items for the food bank  this will really help us to provide essential basic food items and toiletries for individuals and families in crisis. Items needed include longlife and powdered milk, anti-bacterial cleaning supplies, canned meat, fish, canned vegetables, hotdogs, cereals, pasta, bread, sugar, socks and underwear.

We will arrange collection of your donations from your doorstep to minimise social contact. Please call 01942 236953 to arrange your collection.

The Brick Works will close to the public and Gearing Up is by appointment only. We are working on ways that the Brick Works can service the community during this time of increased self isolation and the pressure this puts on the vulnerable community. We will keep you updated about progress in this area.

Our Vans will cease furniture collections and deliveries and we will review this in the next 4 weeks. We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience to our customers and we apologise. We are concentrating on ensuring we can provide food to areas within the Borough and we are concentrating on services for those who may be the most vulnerable.

The Gidlow Lane Shop will continue to operate as normal and is also now a food drop off point for donations.

The Leigh Shop located on Railway Road in Leigh, will be closed until further notice. We are asking staff to support in other areas of the work we do, again to maximise the support we provide to the most vulnerable.

Louise Green continues: “I would also like to take this opportunity to add that I know that many of us are concerned about our own families, friends and neighbours and it is times like these when Wigan and Leigh will come together to support one another.

We will continue to keep everyone updated.”

Many thanks,

Louise
