The Brick Awards for Staff and Volunteers

We were delighted  to host a special awards ceremony to commemorate our hard-working staff and volunteers during our Annual Assembly at The Queens Hall Methodist Church.

The staff recognition awards, which were voted for over a number of months by all employees and volunteers, saw 5 worthy winners who were rewarded for their work and commitment to The Brick.

The ceremony was attended by The Brick’s staff, volunteers and supporters including Wigan Council’s Chief Executive, Donna Hall.

Chief Operating Officer at The Brick, Louise Green, said: “We couldn’t do what we do at The Brick without the ongoing commitment of our staff and the support and generosity of our volunteers. We now have over 120 volunteers who give up their spare time to support the people in our community, who need it the most.

“The staff awards were voted for by their peers and every single staff member received at least one nomination. Today really was a celebration of all of our staff and our volunteers and was a way for us all to say thank you!”

  • Joint winners of ‘Staff Member of the Year’ Award, were Crisis Intervention Co-ordinator, Alyson Weir, as: ‘nothing is ever too much trouble for her’, and Charity Shop Supervisor Michael Evans: ‘for all of his hard work’
  • Winner of the award for ‘Going Over and Above’ was Emergency Access Accommodation Manager Dawn French, as: ‘she works to ensure that the people we are working with get the very best they deserve.’
  • Joint winners of ‘Team Players of the Year’ Award, were Emergency Access Accommodation Manager Katie Yates: ‘who has been running the night shelter fabulously’ and Brick Project Manager James Leach-Holt, for: ‘always considering the bigger picture and ensuring that the people we are working with are at the centre of everything we do.’

‘Team Player of the Year’, award winner, James Leach-Holt said: ““As honoured as I am to receive this reward, I also feel very cheeky in accepting it!

“We have a fantastic team at The Brick Project who work exceptionally hard and make me look good! I am grateful for the nominations I have received but everyone in the charity should be extremely proud of what they have achieved this year.”

6 volunteers at The Brick were rewarded for their long service, and commitment to the charity.

Of the work that the volunteers do for the charity, Fiona Robinson, The Brick’s Volunteer Co-ordinator said: “I am really humbled by the selfless dedication of our volunteer team who relentlessly support all the services The Brick offers our local community. They are an integral part of our workforce who go above and beyond day after day.

“A special thanks is owed to those who have been volunteering with us for a significant period of time. We acknowledged our long-standing volunteer service by way of bespoke handmade gifts made by our mentors and trainees at The Brick Works”
