Business Owner Takes on Leeds to Liverpool Canal Bike Ride for The Brick

A business owner from Appley Bridge has completed the 127-mile Leeds to Liverpool Canal bike ride in a single day, to raise money for The Brick.

50-year-old Marc Conroy runs an eco-friendly property investment business by day and took on the challenge to raise money for The Brick, as his way to help the most vulnerable in the community. After 3 months of intensive training Marc completed the bike ride in just 11 hours, raising £335 to date, with the aim of reaching £1,000 by the end of July.

Marc Conroy said: “For 20 years I have walked, ran, and cycled around the canal close to my home in Appley Bridge. I enjoy getting away from the hustle of modern life and immersing myself in the nature and countryside. This year I wanted to go a step further and make the commitment to raise money for The Brick, by taking on the Leeds to Liverpool canal bike ride.

“The Brick does fabulous work, and their services will only be in more demand in the near future, so I think it is a very worthy cause to support. Even though this was an extremely tough challenge, and was the longest single day ride I have ever done, I was motivated by the knowledge that I would be contributing in my own way to The Brick, and I am proud of what I have achieved.”

Jane Webb, Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator at The Brick, said: “When Marc contacted us to say that he was taking on the 129-mile bike ride in 1 day to raise money for The Brick we were extremely grateful. We appreciate that many people are experiencing hardship right now, so every penny really does count.

“As a charity, we are running low on supplies at our food bank, and donations have taken a downturn as a whole, as businesses and individuals are feeling the economic squeeze due to the cost-of-living crisis.

“So, from everyone at The Brick we want to thank Marc for everything he has done, and we also want to thank everyone who has supported Marc and The Brick so far, we really hope that he can reach his £1,000 target!”

Marc concludes: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who have been kind enough to donate and who has supported ne and The Brick, I am now going to have a few days rest and will be planning what my next challenge might be!”
